Photographica is New England’s largest, vintage camera show and it happens every year at Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts.
It’s run by PHSNE (Fizz-nee), which is short for “Photographic Historical Society of New England.” I’ve been a member for the past few years.
Photographica is billed as a “full-day event celebrating classic and contemporary photography.” There are tons of antique and modern film cameras, lenses, and other photographic equipment and ephemera from the dawn of photography to the present day. Last year there was a very cool guy doing Tin-types!
Obviously there are a ton of Japanese lenses, but there are also quite a few American, German lenses as well.
Unfortunately the Soviet Optical Industry isn’t very well represented, and it’s understandable considering the years of Cold War history between the United States and the Soviet Union. With the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, they’ve become slightly more available to the U.S. market, especially the venerable Helios 44.
Have no fear Soviet lens aficionados, I’ll be there with my collection in tow! You can see the wide angled Mir 20, the super-telephoto MTO-1000, and everything in between! Several, very rare, Helios 44 “Longnose” lenses will also be present!
I’ll be there with a plethora of lenses from my collection, so if you’re into Soviet lenses look me up!
